Desired:

  • Has life experience in situations that have demonstrated strong character qualities.
  • Is a born-again Christian demonstrating the fruit of the Spirit.
  • Is motivated by faith to see a supernatural work of God in the nations.
  • Is a person of prayer.
  • Is able to be decisive.
  • Can see the big picture … has a global perspective
  • Wants to be pro-active and moving forward, not just maintaining.
  • Thinks critically, without a critical attitude.
  • Is a natural encourager and exhorter.
  • Believes in the objectives and goals of GTN and the working toward their completion.
  • Feels at ease in an advising relationship with the president.
  • Able to “connect” with current board members.
  • Is not a “rubber stamp” giving an automatic YES; nor is a “devil’s advocate” with an automatic NO.
  • Enjoys a wide network of friends and professional contacts.
  • Can think independently without insisting on “my way.”
  • Is humble and not judgmental.
  • The spouse (if married) of the board member must be in agreement with the board service and its responsibilities.
  • Presents no conflicts of interests.
  • Has a servant leader attitude – “How can I help the ministry succeed?”
  • Is willing to serve, not just review.
  • Brings a wide variety of successful experiences and relationships.
  • Has rebounded from failure, with integrity.
  • Demonstrates a commitment to honesty, loyalty, and excellence.
  • Understands the importance of confidentiality on sensitive information.
  • Shows a desire to grow and to learn
  • Can function productively and properly within a group/board setting.

Non-Desired:

  • Has personal (hidden) agendas or demonstrates an independent attitude.
  • Is consistently negative, always focusing on why something can’t be done.
  • Is fearful of the future.
  • Is stingy.
  • Is extremely emotional or self-centered.
  • Makes commitments, but does not keep them.
  • Has an unhealthy need for acceptance, recognition, or affirmation.
